Effects of Magnetic Field on Growth and Antioxidant Capacity of Artemisia aucheri in Normal or Saline Conditions

چکیده
In the present study, changes of total phenolic concentration and radical-scavenging activity were evaluated in the shoots of Artemisia aucheri -a medicinal plantthat had been exposed as seeds to magnetic fields (90 or 200 mT for 5 and 20 min) and that were irrigated for one month with NaCl (150 mM) under glasshouse conditions. Total phenolic content and radical-scavenging activity decreased in A. aucheri under salt stress. Magnetic fields (particularly at 200mT for 20min) significantly increased these parameters compared to control, regardless of the presence or absence of NaCl. While salt stress induced MDA accumulation and biomass diminution in A. aucheri, magnetic-pretreatment of seeds significantly alleviated the injurious effects of NaCl. Results suggested application of magnetic field would increase salt tolerance in A. aucheri through maintenance of cellular membrane integrity. It may also improve medicinal properties of the shoots via increased polyphenols concentration and antioxidant capacity.

Increasing Salt Tolerance and Antioxidant Activity in Artemisia aucheri by H2O2-Priming
Recent studies have introduced seed priming with H2O2 as an effective technique to alleviate abiotic stresses in plants. In the current study, accomplished at Faculty of Sciences, Shahrekord University, seeds of medicinal plant Artemisia aucheri were primed with H2O2 (0, 10, 50, 90 and 140 µM) and grown under salt stress (0 and 150 mM NaCl) for one month. Results showed a decrease in H2O2 and m...

Artemisia deserti Krasch (A. deserti), Artemisia aucheri (A. aucheri) and Artemisia sieberi Besser (A. sieberi) are three members of Asteraceae (compositae) family, which grow widely in the even and high areas of Birjand, Iran. This study has attempted to compare the total antioxidant capacity of methanol extracts of these three plants using DPPH (1,1-Diphenyl-2-Picrylhydrazyl) radical scavengi...
متن کاملEffects of magnetic fields on some physiological factors and antioxidant capacity of Silibum marianum L. seedlings under salt stress
Salinity is one of the most important abiotic stresses that have restricted affects on plant growth and yield. Magnetic field can ameliorate the negative effect of salinity with induction of plant antioxidant activity. In present research, the effect of static magnetic fields (0 anf 4 mT) on some physiological parameters and antioxidative capacity were investigated under salinity stress at conc...

Seeds of medicinal plant Artemisia sieberi were pretreated with H2O2 (0, 10, 50, 90, and 140 µM) and grown in saline condition (0 and 150 mM NaCl) for one month. Phytochemical properties such as antioxidant capacity and also salt tolerance in the plans arising from H2O2 pretreated seeds under salt stress were examined. Results showed a decrease in H2O2 and malondialdehyde concentrations in the ...
متن کاملDetermination of the Best Compost Tea Concentration as a Potential Method to Maximize the Growth of Two Artemisia and Salsola Species in Dryland Region
Little information is available on the effects of applying compost tea to species in dry regions. Compost from agricultural waste can promote drought resistance in plants and increase their growth by improving soil structure and providing nutrients and enhancing the capacity of the soil to store moisture. In order to examine these effects, compost tea was tested on two species growing in dry re...
